Kali Basman is an international Yin Yoga educator, Dharma teacher and mentor, described on her own site as a "Dharma teacher of teachers." Her work brings Buddhist psychology, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and the intelligence of the body into conversation with one another.
She has eighteen years of teaching experience and a decade of IFS practice. Her teaching draws anatomy, fascia and the meridian traditions of Chinese Medicine together with Buddhist mind training, somatic awareness and parts inquiry. In her classes, Yin Yoga becomes a place to listen: to patterns of holding and protection, to the parts of us that have gone unheard, and to the compassion that can arise when we meet ourselves with curiosity and care.
Kali holds a Master of Public Health in Environmental Health from UCLA and has trained through the Internal Family Systems Institute, including Level 1 training, ongoing study and mentorship. Her background in conscious dying and sacred passage work informs her reverence for grief, transition and the tender uncertainty of being human. She describes twenty years of contemplative study and personal practice as interwoven pathways that she lives as well as teaches.
She leads international retreats, teacher trainings, mentorship programs and virtual practice communities, including Journey to Self, an IFS-informed practice circle. She is known for translating complex teachings into accessible, evocative language. Based in Boulder, Colorado, she teaches at festivals, retreat centers and studios, and her work has been featured through Gaia and Yoga International. She is writing a book on the somatic expression of our parts and on Yin Yoga as a way of returning to Self.
Kali names Sarah Powers as her root teacher and honors Richard Schwartz, whose IFS model shapes her work. She also expresses gratitude to Richard Freeman, Tias and Surya Little, Judith Hanson Lasater, Paul Grilley, Jack Kornfield and Francis Weller.
